Grace Workshops
1 - Prayer
Whether we are a new or seasoned Christian, it can be helpful to spend time thinking and talking with others on how to make the most of the gift of prayer from our heavenly Father.
In this workshop we will spend time looking at what the Bible has to say and how this can shape our motivation and practice
About the FACILITATOR: Em Just
The uni ministry of Evangelical Students (ES) has been really significant for Em. So 6 years ago, after some work and Bible College, she returned to ES with the aim of sharing the gospel and her life alongside students, that by God’s grace, another generation might also look back at uni as being a time of great gospel growth

2 - Taking the Gospel to WorK
Work is busy, life is busy, and I am still supposed to take time to tell others about the hope I have? Sometimes the thought of evangelism goes into the too hard basket, or there is not even enough time to think about how to do it differently. Starting from the first conversation to talking about the Bible together, this seminar will work through practical ways to engage with colleagues and friends beginning with where they are.
About the FACILITATOR: Cheryl Chapman
Cheryl works for City Bible Forum and also as a counsellor. Through these roles, she has developed her understanding of the challenges of speaking the truth of Jesus to colleagues and friends who may not want to know, and the guilt that can come with the struggle

3 - Languages in our Longings
We all long for many things. As we wait and want for these, what narratives are we speaking? Through songs, slogans and values, the world teaches us the language of demand, but the Bible teaches us very different languages: Lament and Thanksgiving.
This workshop will explore how we recognise “demanding” language, and discuss practical tips for building literacy in Lament and Thanksgiving. This workshop is for those looking to renew or reorient their perspective, to turn to God with confidence, honesty, humility and trust as we wrestle with life’s unpredictability, unmet expectations, and delayed hopes.
About the FACILITATOR: Anna Scheepers
Anna is a wife, mother, and mental health professional. She serves in Women’s Ministry at CityReach Baptist Oakden in a teaching and equipping role. She loves to explore with others how to bring all things before God using lament and thanksgiving, which is a discipline she is learning through her personal experience of infertility, mental health issues, and cross-cultural marriage.

4 - Welcoming and loving one another in our churches
Christian community is incredibly important part of the life of the church. And yet it is incredibly easy to get wrong from welcoming newcomers through to caring for the most senior member of our churches. What does the Bible teach about what loving interactions look like in the church and how can we play our part in creating church communities that reflect God's love to others?

5 - Singleness and the Christian woman: What does God think
“It is not good for man to be alone…”, so says God in Gen 2:18. But what does that mean in the light of singleness and the Christian? More broadly, how does God’s word inform us as Christians, when it comes to singleness and marriage.
This workshop is not just for single women. This is a workshop for all Christian women, single or married, who want to understand more about what God says about singleness.
About the FACILITATOR: Jenny Salt
Jenny is our platform speaker this year. She is single and is the Dean of Students at SMBC.
She loves seeing women grow in their understanding of the gospel, and to that end, teaching and preaching to women and equipping others to do the same. Before SMBC, Jenny worked as a registered nurse in a Sydney hospital for a few years and then took to the skies as a flight attendant with Qantas.
Jenny loves to travel and spend time with her extended family and meeting friends for an early morning walk and breakfast.

6 - One to one Bible Reading
Never heard of it?; heard of it, but what is it?; heard of it, sounds great – but how do I do it? I have no idea where to start!
You might have any of these reactions to One to One Bible Reading, or even something entirely different.
Wherever you’re at, this workshop will explore what One to One Bible reading is by looking at the Swedish method of who, when, where, how & why. The aim of this workshop is practical, so please bring your Bible and we’ll get hands-on with the “how” together.
About the FACILITATOR: Debbie Severin
Debbie has been a follower of Jesus for over 30 years. Thankfully God provided a number of women over these years, at various times and through various seasons, to read the Bible and pray with Debbie, more often than not as a way of caring for and ministering to her. This happened both in one to one meetings as well as in various small groups. Having benefited from this time spent with other women in the Bible and prayer, Debbie is keen to help women experience the simple and profound joy of meeting, reading the Bible and praying together

7 - How to Love your husband
It matters to God how we treat our husband. We are the only people who can be a supportive wife to our own husband. If we don't love them, they will suffer. This seminar explores some of the ways we can honour God and our husband in our marriage.

9 - When Children don't believe...yet
What can we do when our adult children reject the gospel? What are helpful ways we can relate to unbelieving children that will give the greatest opportunity for them to one day come to Christ? Also, what can we avoid doing and saying that can create even greater barriers to Christianity?
In this workshop we'll hear some encouraging accounts of those who have returned to faith, giving first hand experience about their road back and how we can help our loved ones.
About the FACILITATOR: LeeAnne Hunt
Lee-Ann has ministered alongside her husband Paul in Adelaide for 34 years in full time parish small parish ministry. She has happily been the needs-based gap filler and has served in children, youth, worship leading, music ministry and has lead bible studies inside and outside her church. 11 - Being Single Again
This seminar is aimed at women who are single again in the second half of life. Widowed, divorced, no longer a carer .
Our backgrounds will be different, some will come from a place of profound grief, others will come with a sense of new found freedom, or perhaps just emptiness, lacking any direction.
We will aim to address small things such as:
The pitfalls of living alone
How much time do we devote to our families?
How do we relate to men?
Are friendships important?
And hopefully discover the answer to the question “What should be the overarching goal of our lives?”
About the FACILITATOR: Ruth Chapman
Ruth is a 68 year old widow whose husband of 39 years died 9 years ago of a brain tumour.
During her married life she was primarily a wife and mother supporting her husband in his business career and raising their 3 daughters. She now has added 3 sons in law and 9 grandchildren to her family.
Ruth loves Jesus and knows that he has work for her to do. But it is difficult to be alone. If you want to explore what it looks like to live for God in the second half of life on your own, join Ruth in this seminar.

12 - Prayer & Reflection SPACE
Do you love coming to Grace Conference for its deep teaching but wish you had a bit more space, on the day, to process all the great truths you have been taught?
This workshop hopes to offer you that space, to sit before God and let him instill in your heart the truths from the day’s sessions.
It will begin with a few questions to reflect on personally or perhaps discuss with a couple other woman. Then there will be time for personal prayer and waiting on the Lord as He speaks through all that Jenny has taught from His powerful Word.
“Then I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her there...” (Hosea 2:16), let His Spirit speak tenderly to you as you sit before His throne in prayer and reflection during this workshop.
About the FACILITATOR: Amy Kelly
Amy has deep desire to see women grow in their hunger for and patience in hearing from God. Growing up in a small tribe in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, Amy’s appreciation for what it means to “be still and know that He is God” was fostered from a young age.
A qualified teacher and Bible college graduate, she has a passion for the faithful teaching of God’s Word and Its power to transform lives. As a wife and a mother of 3 young children, finding refreshment in God, by “being still” before His throne, is a precious and treasured habit.

13 - How do I engage with women from diverse cultural back grounds
The one specific command that Jesus gives to his followers in Math 28: 20 is to make disciples of all nations! Today we live in a country that has brought many nations into our own backyard.
This workshop explores the opportunities God gives us as women, to reach out to women from other cultures here in multi-cultural Adelaide We will discuss the sometimes, self-imposed obstacles that hold us back, pitfalls to avoid, and practical ways to engage others and make Jesus accessible. However, it is not just a matter of obedience, reaching out to women from various cultural backgrounds who touch our lives brings to us a richness of understanding as Jesus also promises that as we make disciples of all nations He is present in ways that fill our lives with joy.

14 - Gritty Love
Loving people can be messy. Loving our neighbour is such a beautiful idea.
Jesus spent so much time showing us how to love those around us. He embraced all people; and taught us so much about caring for the poor and broken in our society.
Come hear the honest journey and testimonies of two young women that felt the call to move into a struggling neighbourhood, where they have found Jesus at work in the most beautiful ways in some really challenging circumstances.
“ The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. “ Isaiah 61:1

18 - Unfulfilled Hope
“How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?...” Have you ever echoed these same words along with the Psalmist? Have there been dreams you have been hoping for, desires you’ve been yearning for, that yet lie unfulfilled? How do you continue to walk faithfully when everyone else around you seems to have their wishes granted? How are you meant to respond when you feel unseen and forgotten by God?
This workshop will seek to answer these- and many other questions- that often arise when we are wrestling with unfulfilled hopes. We will consider how we can respond honestly - and biblically – to God, by following the examples of the Psalmists and other men and women throughout the Bible who experienced the same.
About the FACILITATOR: Mandy Krueger
Mandy is a 30-something, never married, Registered Nurse and Midwife and passionate follower of Jesus. She is also part of the core leadership team at CityReach Marion, serving as a Deacon, overseeing their Gospel Community ministry; and earlier this year joined the staff team at Bible College of SA as their Partnerships and Events Officer. But her journey to get to both of these ministry positions has felt long, and at times, painful. Over the last 5 years God has been teaching her how to surrender her unfulfilled hopes to Him and in the process she has learnt what it truly means to be a friend of God.

19 - Out of order
We do what we love, but so often we love the wrong things. All of us are idol worshippers in some way.
In this workshop we'll look at the grand story of the Bible through the lens of idolatry, and see how, in Christ, God works to restore the right order to our disordered loves. We'll look at some key examples of idols common to us as women, as well as how we can tackle them practically.
About the FACILITATOR: Suzie Smith
Suzie became a Christian when she was twelve and since then has had her fair share of 'disordered loves'. She is married to Des, and they have four young children. She loves teaching the Bible and serves as a small group leader at her church as well as a faculty member at the Bible College of South Australia. In her spare time Suzie likes reading fiction, attempting painting, watching movies and eating yummy food from around the world.

20 - The Bible, Contraception and IVF
In this session, we will discover the Bible’s wisdom on the value of human life and bring that perspective to the areas of In-Vitro Fertilisation and Contraception. The aim will be to provide you with an understanding of basic biology and some information on the techniques and medicines involved, so that you are well equipped to support women navigate the emotional maze that can accompany these reproductive issues.
This session will suit women in any role who seek to encourage sisters to think biblically about this universally important topic.
About the FACILITATOR: Caroline Earley
I am just your average Christian woman, gently going grey and wondering how my kids got so tall. I work, drink coffee, do the washing up and sigh at the state of the garden. A long time ago, I did a health degree, then a theology degree, which gave me a basic framework for thinking about ethical issues around the beginning and end of life. But nothing prepared me for the agonising ethical dilemmas facing women I previously pastored in Sydney. On the discovery journey since then, I’ve loved sinking into the Bible’s truths and working out how its wisdom guides our choices in IVF and Contraception

21 - Working with Hurting Families
“Behavioural issues” can really derail your well planned Sunday School lesson, interrupt your gospel conversations and have you questioning how to show the love of Jesus when you’re about to flip your lid! Come and think through how these ‘issues’ may actually be an opportunity for you (and your church) to welcome and journey with kids and families who find themselves on the margins. Even if you just want a few tips and tricks for how to move past crowd control into real connection, inspiration for your one on one interactions or some ideas on how to reduce the discipline and up the engagement, this session is practical, hope filled and realistic as we seek to be light to kids from hard places.

Working with a team of locals and expats she is part of an effort to see the end of child abandonment in their region. Through their Family Preservation program, Early Intervention work and in partnership with the local state orphanage Tab has experience in working with children, families and institutions. She loves to see God powerfully work to bring healing and hope to those living with disability and the trauma of neglect and ignorance.
